Welcome to CCAFT 2016
Greetings and Welcome to CCAFT 2016,
It is incredible! We are headed into our fourth year with inspiration and joy, offering a new festival format and the introduction of support programs that will extend past the festival weekend for the development of new work by local artists (our exciting Catalyst program for 2016/17 stay tuned for more details!).
This year CCAFT is creating an intimate and intensive environment for artists to be in collaborative spaces together in ways that allow us all to continue asking questions, provoking and stimulating our curiosities, supporting education and professional development in numerous ways.
New Festival Format for 2016
Toronto is an exciting place for circus arts. There are multi generations of artists, diversified practises and processes and an ever evolving eco system of opportunity and innovation created by all the artists living, learning and creating in this incredible city.
Within this rich landscape CCAFT aims to offer opportunities to move deeper into artistic practice with a balance of technical skill and artistic experimentation. The past three festivals have focused on a wide range of classes with excellent teachers drawn from local, national and international networks.
Moving into 2016 we are offering a smaller range of classes but in multi day intensives where the skills and knowledge learned are built upon each day. We are thrilled to have Andreane Leclerc from Montreal, Aimee Hancock from the US and Sonia Norris from Toronto for this year’s festival. These incredible women have exciting and compelling bodies of work, alternative approaches and an inspired creativity in their practise and teaching. Our festival performance will feature the works of our visiting artists alongside local artists.
The festival will open and close with ceremonial circles. On Thursday Sept 15th we will host a community pot luck (it was so much fun last year) at Collective Space where we can check in energetically, eat food together, meet the festival artists and connect by hanging out and letting loose! All are welcome so please bring your families and friends. Saturday evening features a performance at 8:30pm and classes run over three days (16,17,18) at Collective Space and a close by venue. Our festival closing circle will happen after the last class on Sunday the 18th and all are welcome.
We look forward to seeing you at CCAFT 2016
